Who Is Londy Ngcobo
Londy Ngcobo is an internationally respected maritime professional, leadership speaker, and advocate for Africa’s ocean economy. Widely known as "The BLAQMERMAID", she made history as Africa’s first female Dredge Master, becoming a trailblazer in one of the world’s most male-dominated industries.
With more than 13 years of experience in the maritime sector, Londy has built an impressive career spanning ship navigation, merchant shipping, dredging, maritime compliance, and industry development. Her qualifications include Maritime Studies, international merchant shipping experience, and advanced dredging training through IHC in the Netherlands. She currently serves as a Maritime Compliance Manager at Transnet National Ports Authority, while also leading as Founder of Global Maritime Youth and Chief Executive Officer of Womaritime Experts, a specialist consulting firm within the shipping industry.
Born and raised in Durban, South Africa, Londy pursued her passion for the ocean despite societal stereotypes that often discouraged women, particularly black women, from entering maritime careers. Her determination, resilience, and commitment to excellence enabled her to break barriers and establish a legacy of firsts that continues to inspire future generations.
An award-winning leader recognized for her contribution to scarce skills development, Londy serves on several transport, leadership, women’s empowerment, and youth-focused boards. Through advocacy, awareness initiatives, mentorship, and professional development programmes, she actively contributes to strengthening Africa’s transport sector while creating opportunities for economic participation and employment across the continent.
As a wife, mother, and mentor, Londy is deeply committed to empowering women and young people. She is passionate about equipping individuals with practical tools, confidence, and the mindset required to thrive in rapidly changing environments. Her ability to combine personal experience with professional insight enables her to deliver meaningful and lasting impact to diverse audiences.
Today, Londy is recognized globally as a powerful keynote speaker whose message centres on courageous leadership, resilience, purpose, and personal accountability. Through her signature call to action, “Claim Your Captaincy,” she inspires individuals and organizations to take ownership of their journeys, embrace opportunity, and lead with intention.
Her influence extends far beyond the maritime industry. Through platforms including TEDx, Forbes Women Africa, international conferences, leadership forums, and major media appearances, Londy has inspired thousands by encouraging bold thinking, innovation, and global perspectives. Combining compelling storytelling with practical leadership lessons, she leaves audiences motivated to navigate uncertainty, challenge limitations, and create meaningful impact.
From navigating some of the world's largest vessels to shaping conversations on leadership and empowerment, Londy Ngcobo continues to prove that while she made waves at sea, she is now making an even greater impact on land.
Londy takes the audience on a journey of fascinating ship scenarios she has experienced, witnessed, and learned all over the world, and linked with every story are key lessons that perfectly align with the client’s brief/theme as long-lasting tools for the audience to take home.
